Poverty line in the Americas: moving forward to the MDGs?
For the past five years the number of people living below the poverty line has decreased, but not sufficient. The proportion of people living in extreme poverty in developing regions dropped from 46 per cent to 27 per cent — on track to meet the target globally.
In Latin America, the percentage of population below poverty line has decreased hugely in countries like Brazil, from 30,8% in 2005 to 21,4%. But in countries like Honduras, there’s other story: from 2005 to 2009 it only decreased 6 points.
